No, Howard Stark wasn’t Father of the fucking Year.
Note to self, do NOT read any more fic’s that have Howard Stark in the tags. I was happily enthralled in yet another long fic and bam! Again, here’s Steve reminiscing about Howard and I’m waiting on Tony to say ‘actually my old man was a total dick who physically and mentally abused me my whole life’ but no. What I read instead is ‘yeah, I miss him too.’
No, Just no. The only thing Tony would miss about that man is the bruises his body carried when Howard was around. I understand that many people haven’t read the comics and I understand that some people have totally twisted the whole ‘My greatest creation’ bullshit speech from IM 2 to mean that Howard loved Tony but fuck, if you spend enough time on tumblr and cruise the Tony Stark, Iron Man or hell even the Steve/Tony tags, you’re going see the reason why any posts on my blog that have Howard in them are tagged “Howard the Bastard”.
Howard Stark was physically and mentally abusive to his only child. Plain and simple. It’s not a made up fannon to make Tony seem even more of a tragic hero, it’s a canonical fact.
